Hi guys.
wow. I haven't written in a really long time. My mom just sweetly suggested on the phone the other day..
"Maybe now would be a good time for you to write in your journal?"
I got defensive and said in my best Napoleana Dynamite voice "MOM! I'll do it when I WANT! Gosh."
she didn't get it.
And so here I am.
I made corn muffins this morning. Ah the life of a songwriter. My grandparents are so sweet and they send me boxes of goodies, one of the goodies being Jiffy brand Corn muffins. Real easy to make, so easy in fact that you can actually make them in a jiffy. (which is an actual amount of time... boggles the blog)
I have been out of commission for a bit. I went to Hawaii to visit some good friends out there on the big island. (I have tried to attach some pictures from that. If you don't see any it means I couldn't figure out how to do it. If you can see it, one of them is my adorable hand pretending to be Hawaiian and the other is my girlfriends and I doing a bud light commercial.) it was a beautiful trip. We hiked some of the most beautiful landscape I have ever seen, and spent days on remote beaches and frolicked in the tepid water. I did not however come back overly tan. That may be my biggest disappointment since the Golden Palace, the follow-up show to the Golden Girls. Man, coming back from a trip to Hawaii un-tanned. How rude. But the good news is I got a sponsorship from Coppertone Sunblock. They were proud of me. Yay!
Oh, I suppose you want to hear about the music stuff too. fine.
It's all going well.
bye!
If you hadn't seen that I had continued writing down a few spaces, you would have believed I was finished with my blog. That would have been super funny, right? Oh man, I am LAUGHING right now.
Back to the music. I have written several new songs that will possibly end up on the record. I think it will be a great mix of old and new stuff. Several things from Careful Confessions re-recorded and some stuff that we play regularly but it's not on a recording yet, and some new stuff so you all know that I'm still plugging away here. I don't really know quite what to expect from the whole recording process yet, I am a bit anxious but trying to just take things a day at a time. I am overall, just paying rent here on cloud nine, so happy to get the opportunity to record my music and share it. It's a freakin' dream come true, and I'm certainly not taking it for granted. I am taking it all in and learning so much about who I am and how I work and how to listen to the music and let it navigate the process. What a blessing to spend my days making corn muffins, jotting down thoughts on music and Golden girls and sending them out to you beautiful people that have taken the time and interest in encouraging me to continue to sing.
wow.
thank you.
I will keep you posted on what's to come and now I am going to pour myself another cup of coffee, walk up to buy the new Fiona Apple record (came out yesterday) and try to finish some lyrics.
Sending you more love than could fit in your inbox...
sara
sara, i really think you are the coolest thing since sliced bread. your music is totally inspiring. i've been listening to careful confessions solidly for a year and a half now (since i met you in savannah last may) and find another new and beautiful element every time i listen. keep up the amazing work and come back to georgia soon!

Hawai'i is such a beautiful place! I have no doubt that inspiration, as well as good times, came of your trip.
We here on the East (and inferior) coast would love to hear -and see- you perform here some time. The sooner the better! (New York City, specifically!)
I just recently discovered you(sorry to make you sound like an archeological find) and I would like to personally invite you to come to missouri for a gig. No, Ok, well I love your music and have been listening non-stop.
You were up in my hood!??! Not for reals....t's not my hood anymore. So where on the Big Island did you stay? I did my field study/internship out there back in my college days (UCSC anyone??). Next time you go back, stay at the plantation house in Pahala, and have pancakes at Ken's House of Pancakes for me. And wave hi to the hippies in Pahau. I hear they like that :) more pictures! or as the locals would say mo'pichaz!
da kine!
Dude! I went to UCSC! Go Santa Cruz!

Fresh and heart felt is how you bring it. What an inspiration you are to many of us! I have hoped for moons to find a songstress who could write, and front her own material as well as you do. You contiue to move me. If you ever run clean out of bass players... :)
