hi little ones.
wow it's been a long time, and i feel like I'm writing to all my old camp friends or something. You know, the "catch you up on what I'm up to" kind of letter that makes you remember the good ol' times, and look forward to the new ol' times. Or something.
Long story short, January was insane. I know lots of you have stayed up to date and have been keeping tabs on where we've been, but just in case you missed it, here goes...
The year started with a few days of radio promotional visits in California where I got to do my first set of acoustic radio lounges for people who actually knew who I was BEFORE they came. Crazy. Then, off to NY for the CBS morning show and a real-live interview for Rolling Stone Magazine! omgomgomg. We then flew directly to Hawaii to sing for a huge group of dentists and play with sea turtles, then back to LA to sing with Stevie Wonder!! omgx6
The morning after Stevie rocked my world, we flew to Sundance Film Festival in Park City Utah, where I saw no films, but I did see Paris Hilton in the flesh. I also reaffirmed I'm officially NOT nor ever will be a Hollywood starlet. Me and my boys stuck out like sore thumbs but enjoyed the parade of it all. We noshed on the crazy atmosphere, some Rock Band video games (I'm a killer bass player, no big deal) and a beautiful dinner with friends then boarded the plane out of there.
just so you know, this is only the second week of January.
I then went on my radio promotion "EXTRAVAGANZA" which consisted of a whole bunch of flights across middle america and hotel rooms and in-stores and beautiful beautiful fans, and me singing Love Song over and over for people eating chicken. They weren't always eating chicken, just one time. But that was enough.
I think extravaganza is a nice way to think about it.
Then the last week of the year (aka this past week) was Regis and Kelly (she's so mini!) TRL (I'm a teenager again! What am i doing here?!) and Ellen Degeneres (hi God, it's me, Ellen...)
Not to mention the unveiling of the new website, which i love so much I've had it tattooed to the insides of my eyelids, and the embarking on our February tour with James Blunt.
What a whirlwind.
And once again, I'm going to sound like a broken record, but I have YOU to thank for all of this. I don't know why this gets to be MY life, but I promise I'm honoring it by enjoying it, and I pass that right along to you.
And more than ever, I'm concentrated on finding the fun in it all. It is actually a lot of work to do all this stuff, but I am by no means complaining. I just have to try a bit harder to stay silly. Cut to: Night out in Louisville Kentucky where I danced with a plastic penguin and ran down an escalator the wrong way.
Things around me may be growing up, but I don't have to... right?
Anyway, we go to pick up the BUS tonight for the start of our tour!!! I can't believe it. I seriously can't. And I should be packing right now, but I'm just so filled with amazement and joy that i had to write my old camp buddies (that's you) and say thanks for all the good times. I'm really lucky to have them.
Anyhoo, to all of you who write to me, I'm reading your words and LOVING your words and so grateful for your support. I'm trying to write back when i can, but please just know that I cherish all the love that pours out of you and I'm putting it in little tiny airplane safe 2oz bottles and sending them all over the world.
That's supposed to be a cool analogy, but I'm not sure about it yet.
moving on...
look for more from me and the boys soon, and please know I truly truly love and appreciate all you give to this music.
See you soon!!!!

Heya Sara,
I was in NY last week on vacation ( i live in the Netherlands) and bought your record at the airport.Girl you made a piece of art there!!!! Good luck on your tour and i hope to see you on tour in Europe some day. I know this will happen, dream big :)!!!
Lots of love,
Kilika
Sara, I just got to tell you how beautiful you are. You are the most genuine artist I've heard out there. I don't know what it is about you, but you make me smile anytime I read anything that you write down. Your personality is just so becoming that it's hard not to fall in love with you. Charming, sweet, and playful, you are just one amazing human being, not to mention your supernatural talent and abilities you have as a musician. I'm just lovin' that there is someone like you out there making great music and givin' out free smiles for everyone. I think you are my favorite person...Keep on workin' what you got, because I wouldn't be able to find an artist as satisfying as you are. So for the sake of human kind.
Uh...with all the Appreciation, Love, and good will i have in me.
Your's Truly
Charles, the magician of the musicians, not really.
Hi, Sara, I just discovered you through the Billboard website and I must confess: I'm totally in love. Great work! All the best of luck to you from Brazil.
Sara~ I was at your concert in Seattle at the moore theater and you were AMAZING! I want you to come back!!! I love your music it's GREAT and hopefully I will get to see and maybe meet you! ( I can relate to your music so well) Good luck on tour!
Hello, Ms Bareilles,
Fellow American here, I'm John. I left a lil message on your myspace blog yesterday, and now I'm lookin to buy your earlier albums? Thought certainly they'd be here. I'll find em.
I've a peculiar feeling about you, that I know you maybe through dreams I've had. My first dream was July 26, 2003, the next September 2, 2005. A Hollywood actor and a couple brown bears were involved. The conversation was short but has remained with me.
I'm working on my book, Sara, love for you to just give my first paragraph a skim, I think you'll appreciate it. Here's the link:
http://blog.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendID=7036707&blogID=349554874
This message isn't a one shot deal. I'd really like to connect with you. I'll go to you. Put this dream theory of mine to the test. I'm sorry, I have to get a lil crazy when I'm outa gas. I'm charismatic in conversation, not so much in initial letters.
Oh, your song City, I've been replayin it. Makes me happy I chose way back when to be the best writer in the world. Not always, you know, the silence is sometimes hard to create, maintain and sustain.
Sincerely,
John
Hi Sara,
I first learned about your album from iTunes in Nov '07, and immediately I downloaded it. What struck me the most was the power of your voice and the range of emotion you were able to convey in every song. It is wonderful to see your name popping up all over the place now on TV and in print. It's also nice to see a fellow NorCal native make such a huge impression on the music scene. You are truly a gifted musician and I wish you the best of luck on the success of your current album and the many, many fantastic ones to follow. Can't wait to hear them!!!
Sincerely,
Jolayne01
Such an awesomely fabulous expression. Your writing (mostly the blog and the bio, haha) is hilarious and great. I quite enjoy your music, but I more enjoy your constant sincerity. Loves & hugs. (Because I imagine you to be the kind of person who enjoys that type of thing...who knows...)
Sara,
I bought love song as the free download ages ago and discovered that you are possibly the best artist ever. I loved your honest music and beautiful voice in a world of mediocre music. I promptly bought everthing of yours that i could find... I also play piano and love learning to play your music. All your songs have great lyrics, melody, and piano. You convey such great messages and I can really relate to them! i'm so glad that other people are finally realizing your musical genius!
But while ur new website is cool, your old website used to have some downloads of some old/live stuff, i think including "before i knew better" which is one of my favorite all time songs. I can't find it on ur new website! don't let this song fall off the face of the earth! or maybe its on the website and i just didn't see it...
But anyways, you are a great, honest artist and i really hope u keep making great genuine, beautiful music!
Rock on!
Libby
Hi Sara-
I sing along to your CD in my car, with the stereo as loud as it will go. It's made for some great conversations at red lights. It's a great album.
Hope to see you live soon!
Jess
Wow, you are traveling way to much. but that is what you get for being a amazing. have fun and keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars.
P.S.
I will keep the light on.

I've been following you and your beautiful music since I first saw you open for Maroon 5 back in the Bay Area in Spring 2004 (So long ago, I know!). Being that I was under 21 until this past year, there were a lot of shows I couldn't get to. But I've been here supporting you, spreading the word on how awesome you are the whole time.
My best friend and I are totally freaked out now that people actually know who you are--it's so unreal, but we're so happy for you! You deserve it, no question. Keep on rocking. Turns out your voice isn't so little after all. :)
Hello! Your song "Bottle it Up" was on a list of ten of the most popular songs for my college adolescent psychology class. My portion of this little oral project involves: language used and age group most likely to listen to this song; and, at least three messages this song gives and the how they do this. I stumbled upon a youtube comment that said this was about your record company. After listening to the track, many many times (by the way Ive never heard it before, and I love it! It gets better each time!)I find the lyrics could have this meaning. I am the type of person who reads poetry for what it is, so when someone suggests an inner meaning I sometimes have an "AHAH" moment! Thanks for any help you provide, I am working with a group. Keep up the fantastic artistry, your voice is beautiful!!

Sara...just visited this fancy site after the show last night. So great seeing you. As always, I am so impressed. I just wanted to comment on 2 things I read:
1) I love that you get to sing for people eating chicken. Had I known your affliction for this, I would have brought some chicken for us all last night.
2) You have to try harder to be silly. With this I empathize as DC is not as silly as LA. If you ever want to get silly...just fart. It will make you laugh a lot. Then hopefully, you'll think of me. Then maybe text me. Then I can ride my bike to your house. K? K.
Well, love you and thinking about you.
XoXoJo
YOU'RE SO FREAKING AWESOME!
Hi Sara, i just wanted to thank you for the smile you put on my face whenever I listen to your voice and music as they convey such a beautiful Spirit ... it's truly wonderful. Few artists are able to create at such a pure level of being so I'm looking forward to magical things from you in the future. It must have been all that walking around the Redwoods in CA as Silence and Nature have a way of leading one to the light, and it is this light which I hear so clearly in your voice and music. Be careful through my Child, as the path home is fraught with misdirection and error if your not focused on priorities and principles ... Anyway, keep searching and sharing the truth you find ... as I'll be looking forward to listening to whatever new melodies you come up with.
Peace and love
O
PS - "if you ever need a friend just call my name and I'll be there" JC
