Best name ever
Blog is the best name ever for the idea of just writing down thoughts and having people read them.
Screw "journal" or "diary". I need to express myself in a new way. I need to blog.
I'm going to blog like I've never blogged before, which I haven't.... so this phrase is actually quite appropriate.

I guess I'm just going to spill my guts in these things. If they get too long or boring, you can just stop reading, but I figure since I'll never get to have one on one conversations with everyone, I can do it here. Except that you can't talk back or ask questions or tell me your favorite episode of the Golden Girls. So I'll tell you....Mine is the one where they go to a random high school reunion for fun and they all assume identities/name tags of people who didn't show up. Rose's name tag is "Kim Fung Toy", the exchange student. Oh Rose, you are such a blog. Anyway, get ready for some random thoughts and ideas about whatever the hell I feel like saying.

It's Tuesday afternoon and I'm just blogging around at home trying to catch up on the shit I hate doing, like paying bills, laundry, putting my blogs away, you know.... the usual. These are actually things I love having done, it's just pulling teeth to get me to do them. Bloggeriffic.

We just returned from a weekend in San Francisco where we got a chance to play the Great American Music Hall. It's a legendary venue in the heart of the Tenderloin in SF.... beautiful. The Venue itself was unbelievable, and the staff was very accommodating. I think I was a big stress ball about the whole thing because it was our first San Francisco show, and I had a bunch of old friends and family coming. What is it about performing in front of the people that have known you the longest that makes it the most scary? Dunno. Blogging ridiculous. The place was packed and a benefit for the Sunbeam Foundation that our hosts Brad Wolfe and the Moon have started to raise money for bone cancer research. Amazing thing to do and we were happy to be a part of it. The next day we just tooled around the city, Fisherman's Wharf, Union Street, and then up to Javi's house where we barbecued and played music. Not too shabby.

We raced back on Sunday and drove directly to the Marc Broussard show at the House of Blues. It was great to see those guys again. We had such a blast on tour, and they are really wonderful people. Watching them play is really inspiring to me. One of those performances that makes me want to run home and pick up my guitar. I would say pick up my keyboard, but it's so damn heavy. My friend David Ryan Harris also played earlier in the night, with a surprise guest.... John Mayer. Yowza. Just showed up.... out of the blog. Josh had a gig up in the foundation room that night, so we hung out and drank upstairs. I might have accidentally had a robot dance contest with our buddy A-team who runs sound for Marc. I'm pretty sure I won. I'm a natural roblog.

I'm thinking to myself right now, "is this how you blog?" I have no freakin' clue. It kind of sounds like a glorified version of note I think I sent in high school. Who do you want to go with to the prom? I digress....

Other than the occasional show, I have been working really hard on trying to keep new musical ideas coming. The band and I are very close on a couple of ideas. Almost finished, but still reworking. Over the next couple of weeks we are planning on heading into the studio to demo up some new songs. We are shooting for getting into the studio October 1. That may be ambitious considering that I haven't figured out what exactly is going on the album yet.

This process has been very challenging. Deciding on an artistic vision for yourself is more complicated than I thought. It's the first time I've been asking myself, "what do I want to say?" It will hopefully be the first of many albums, but it's a really important one. Lots to think about. Which songs compliment eachother, which songs I feel most connected to at this point, what type of production will best communicate the songs,etc... blog blog blog. Everyone at Epic has been really supportive of me taking some time to really figure out how we are going to approach this first album. I'm thrilled to be getting the chance to do this, and I can't wait to share it all with you guys. You have been so patient and supportive, I really hope you like what we do.

It's almost 6pm and you think I'm joking, but I'm really going to watch the Golden Girls now.

All my blog,
s
